Pritchard's screamer dumps Bluebirds out of cup
Nathaniel MG Cup – Round 3
Penybont 1 - Haverfordwest County 0
Charlie Pritchard’s second half screamer earned Penybont a slender victory against Haverfordwest County at the SDM Glass Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Both teams made many changes for this third round tie, but it was the Bont who edged it as their name is placed in the hat for the next round.
The visitors created some decent scoring opportunities but failed miserably to find a way past vastly experienced Bont goalkeeper Michael Lewis.
Bluebirds’ goalkeeper Ifan Knott pulled off a good save to deny Pritchard from close range.
The visitors came close to breaking the deadlock as Jacob Owen curled a wicked effort which crashed against Lewis’ crossbar.
At the other end, Jasper Jones got on the end of a decent cross by Lewys Ware, but his effort sailed over the bar, as it remained goalless at half time.
In the 53
rd minute Pritchard struck a screamer for what turned out to be the winner as Knott had no chance of stopping it.
Both teams used substitutes as the hosts were content to keep a clean sheet as the visitors will be disappointed to bow out of the competition without scoring.
This was the Bluebirds’ third narrow defeat in a row, they will look to bounce back to winning ways as they travel to Aberystwyth Town in a JD Cymru Premier clash at Park Avenue this Friday evening.
